SUMMARY:Clifton Grove Biodiversity Project September
DESCRIPTION:Get to know the Clifton Grove bushland and help us improve it for the many wonderful animals that live here. Home to koalas\, Greater Gliders\, Krefft’s Gliders\, Barking Owls\, Powerful Owls\, echidnas\, red necked wallabies and many other species\, you never know what you might see. Sadly\, erosion and invasive weeds are spreading in Clifton Grove which compromise food sources and habitat for its wildlife. Recently\, working bees have worked towards identifying the worst areas of invasive weed and also preparing a 3km stretch of barbed wire for removal. At this working bee\, we will help prevent further spread of erosion\, plant some endemic natives and identify projects for further working bees. \nPlease wear sturdy shoes appropriate clothing and bring thick gloves. \nA sausage sizzle will follow. \nThis event is partnered with Orange Rotary’s Sustainability Week and is supported by the NSW Government through the Landcare Enabeling Program Phase 3 Innovations and Partnerships Grant Program.

SUMMARY:Off Grid House Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Excited to create their dream family home on a 19-acre property\, the family chose a custom prefabricated modular design that combined architectural flexibility with the certainty of an efficient\, on-time construction process. \nThe completed home sits comfortably within its rural surroundings\, balancing thoughtful design\, everyday functionality and responsiveness to the local climate. Its exceptional energy performance has earned a seven-star energy rating. \nMotivated by a desire to live more sustainably\, the family incorporated a 14-kilowatt solar system and 40-kilowatt-hour battery to power both the home and their electric vehicle. Geothermal heating and cooling\, extensive rainwater harvesting and an environmentally responsible wastewater treatment system further reduce the property’s environmental impact. \nBeyond the home\, the family is applying regenerative agriculture and permaculture principles across the property. Through native revegetation\, habitat restoration\, biodiversity enhancement and food production\, they are working towards greater self-sufficiency while improving the land for future generations. \nThis is more than a thoughtfully designed family home. It is a practical example of how considered design\, renewable technology and responsible land management can come together to create a more resilient and sustainable way of life. \nNow in its fifth year\, the food production and animal management systems are more established and much has been learnt about growing food.  A vegetable garden provides greesn all year round for humans and animals and a rotating grazing system for livestock and poultry nurtures the soil and helps manage grass. \nThis event is held in partnership with Rotary’s Orange Sustainability Week.
